THE KILLER MOUNTAIN
This has earned Nanga Parbat another name as "Killer Mountain" for it is the ninth of the world mountains. Measures stand tall with 8,126 meters or 26,660 feet. In the western Himalayas are Gilgit-Baltistan and also parts that were under the jurisdiction administration of parts of Kashmir.
Key features
* Height and Altitude: Nanga Parbat is a very high tower mountain with great height above the surrounding landscape. It also looks like the second of the world’s 100 highest mountains except for Mount Everest.
Steep faces: The mountain has sharp steep faces, particularly on the Rupal Face, which ironically turns into one of the longest and steepest rock faces on earth.
Infamous: Thousands have died that is why Nanga Parbat is also called "Killer Mountain." The weather, often accompanied by avalanches and the terrain too is pretty unforgiving such that dead and grueling climbing at times takes place.
Climbing History
Partial attempts Climbers like Albert F. Mummery had partial climbing the year 1895 to fail at topping it up with this summiing pioneer attempts. And death through climbing was paid for as history is made when climbers reach the top of a pioneering attempt during early ages of the 20th centuries.
It was his first climb as an Austrian climber. Nanga Parbat is, of course, the first to be climbed. So this became the first-time climb, 1953, and since his fellow climber had fears of some climbing he was the only solo climber on his first. And Nanga Parbat also has her share not so great recent accidents, she too held the greatest ever succession in several respects.
